Crucifix

20th century
All Saints Catholic Church, St. Peters, Missouri, USA

This is the typical crucifix seen in American churches today, showing Jesus after he has expired. He wears an unadorned cloth tied at the waist and is otherwise naked, his eyes are closed, his head slumps to one side, and the arms sag from the weight of the dead body. The five wounds and the INRI plaque are virtually universal in such images.

The statue at left is of St. Jude Thaddeus, identified by his staff and the image of Jesus on his breast.
